About us

The Kannur branch of IMA was started in 1965 with Kannur, Kuthuparamba, Iritty and Taliparamba under its jurisdiction. The first President was Dr. P.I. Jacob and Dr. K.V. Madhavan Nair was the Hon.Secretary. This Branch contributed two National Vice Presidents Dr. C.E. Oommen and Dr. P.V. George. The Branch also contributed  five State Presidents Dr. P.V. George, Dr. C.E. Oommen, Dr. Mercy Oommen, Dr. P.M. Shenoy and Dr. Mohammed Ali. The Branch won the prestigious S.S. Rao Shield for Best Branch for 1979-80 and 1980-81. It also bagged the Dr. Parid Pillai shield for Second Best Branch in 1981-82. The Kannur Branch took the initiative for the IMA PP Schemes and Social Security Schemes under the guidance of Dr. Mohammed Ali.

We conduct CME meetings on all Thursdays (going on for the last 15 years). Good number of Physicians turn up for the meetings.The Annual T.K.C.Oration in memory of Dr. T.K. Chandrsekharan held in September is an important meeting attended by large number of Doctors.

We have a full fledged AC Hall in the heart of Kannur with an office. This is a regular meting place for many medical associations. Recently the hall is equipped with recreational facilities like table tennis and a 49 inch LED TV with DTH connection.

At present there are 430 members in the Branch. The wide spectrum of Doctors from all specialities makes it a unique mixture of treating Doctors. The cooperation and sense of unity make it an strong body of support for all fraternity.
